Department: Field Operations

Policy Purpose: To define the mandatory tools, diagnostic hardware, and safety gear every MobileBattery technician must carry in their service vehicle. Arriving on-site without the proper equipment compromises safety, looks unprofessional, and delays service.

1. The Core Hand Tools

Batteries are secured differently across all makes and models. A comprehensive, organized tool bag is your lifeline.

• Standard Socket Set (Metric & SAE): You must carry a complete 1/4" and 3/8" drive set.

  The Essentials: 10mm (your most frequently used socket for standard terminals), 12mm, and 13mm (common for European hold-down brackets).

  Pro-Tip: Always carry backup 10mm sockets and wrenches, as they are the most easily lost items in the field.

• Extensions: Deep sockets and long extensions (minimum 6" to 12") are required for reaching recessed hold-down bolts, particularly in SUV engine bays and European trunks.

• Wrenches: A standard set of combination wrenches (especially 10mm, 12mm, and 13mm) for tight spaces where a ratchet won't fit.

• Terminal Tools: A dedicated battery terminal puller (to safely remove seized clamps without snapping the post) and a terminal wire brush (for cleaning the inside of the ring connectors and the battery posts).

2. Diagnostic & Programming Technology

We are complete electrical specialists. You must have the tech to prove the diagnosis and finalize the installation.

• Digital Battery Load Tester / Analyzer: Mandatory for executing the "Diagnostics First" SOP. This tool must be capable of testing State of Charge, Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), and the starter draw.

• OBD2 Scanner (BMS Capable): A professional-grade diagnostic scanner capable of reading/clearing codes and performing Battery Management System (BMS) Registration and Coding.

• Digital Multimeter: For testing alternator output voltage and diagnosing parasitic drains.

• Memory Saver: An OBD2 memory saver cable or a 12V accessory port adapter attached to a jump-pack. This is critical to keep the vehicle's computer powered during the swap so it doesn't lose its memory or trigger an anti-theft lock.

• Heavy-Duty Jump Pack: Fully charged daily. Used for providing standard jump-starts and powering the memory saver.

3. Roadside Safety Gear

Our technicians work in unpredictable environments, from dark parking garages to busy highway shoulders.

• Hi-Vis Vest: A high-visibility, reflective safety vest is mandatory anytime you are working outside the vehicle on a roadside or in a high-traffic area. It should be worn over your standard green MobileBattery uniform.

• Traffic Control: Minimum of three highly visible traffic cones or flashing LED hazard flares to create a safe perimeter around your work zone.

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety glasses (battery acid is highly corrosive) and heavy-duty, acid-resistant mechanic gloves.

4. Consumables & Clean-Up

A professional installation means leaving the battery bay looking better than we found it.

• Corrosion Management: Battery acid neutralizer spray (or a baking soda/water mix) to melt away heavy corrosion, and anti-corrosion sealant spray to coat the terminals after the new battery is installed.

• Terminal Protectors: Treated felt terminal pads (red for positive, black or green for negative) to install under the connectors.

• Shop Towels & Hand Wipes: Clean shop rags for wiping down the battery tray, and heavy-duty mechanic hand wipes so you aren't handing a customer a greasy tablet when it's time to process their payment.
